MediaTek Dimension 9200 It is a new high-end ARM-based SoC from the Taiwanese brand. This new model brings some important improvements and is ready to face Apple A16 Bionic and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Therefore, MediaTek has significantly improved not only the performance, but also the level of power consumption (or at least that is its version).

MediaTek Dimensity 9200 is built on TSMC’s 4nm process and lays a very strong foundation for high energy efficiency. The distribution of cores consists of a Cortex-X3 core capable of operating at up to 3.05 GHz, three Cortex-A715 cores reaching 2.85 GHz and another four efficient Cortex-A510 cores reaching up to 1.80 GHz.

The combination of cores in the Dimensity 9200 gives it a 12% single-core and 10% multi-core performance improvement compared to the Dimensity 9000, according to MediaTek. That might not sound like much in itself, but it’s a lot better if we say so energy efficiency has improved, at least according to the company, by 25%. This may be an aspect that gives it a lot of points in terms of inclusion in high-end smartphones if it achieves its goals of competing well in this market segment.

The GPU is another front where the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 has improved significantly with its inclusion Graphics processor Immortalis-G715, which has already proven to be better than the solution used by the A16 Bionic. Immortalis-G715 is also part of Dimensity 9200 supports ray tracing and improves performance by 32% and energy efficiency by 41% compared to its predecessor. At the screen level, it can support FHD+ at 240Hz, WQHD at 144Hz and two 2.5K panels at 60Hz.

In terms of camera support, the Dimension 9200 has native support for RGBW capture. The new Imagiq 890 Image Signal Processor (ISP) supports a wide range of features such as motion blur and a 35% increase in AI. Another distinctive feature is WiFi 7, a specification that MediaTek has shown a lot of interest in. This is in addition to mmWave 5G, Bluetooth 5.3 with studio-quality wireless audio and Bluetooth LE.

The first family of smartphones equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 is speculated to arrive later this year. Until then, and especially if these speculations are true, expect to see quite a few comparisons with SoC models from Qualcomm and Apple. What MediaTek is showing looks quite nice, but in addition to the quality of the product, it is also important that it is a commercial success, and here we encounter a trend that is not always meritocratic in consumer computers.
