Disney+ may be one of the video-on-demand services that performs best on a per-user basis, but that doesn’t mean it’s still difficult to reap benefits with this model, and like others before it, it’s about to go up in price. autumn.
It’s not really a surprise: it had been known for several months in December that the price of a Disney+ subscription would increase. from $7.99 to $10.99… in the United States. Here in Spain, if you are a Disney+ subscriber, you already know that the service costs 8.99 euros per month or 89.99 euros per year. A price that is not moving at the moment, but which is sure to move sooner rather than later.
For more data, the price increase in the United States will coincide with the launch of a a new plan with advertising, which, mind you, will cost the same as the current one, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the same thing happens when the rise moves to the rest of the territories in which the platform operates. And it will be surreal in the worst possible way.
If the terms are transferred as they are to these parts, the new price of Disney + would be around 12.99 euros, with the new cheap plan with advertising would cost the current 8.99 euros. In other words, on Disney+ they expect people to pay 8.99 euros per month to get advertising between what they watch.
Of course, Disney + is not the only one acting in this regard. On the one hand, Netflix is already raising prices and quite a bit, and at the same time introducing a cheaper plan with advertising. What’s more, here in Spain you can hire from tomorrow, November 10: 5.49 euros per month for a reduced catalog and advertisements that televisions from three to a quarter (hopefully they won’t abuse it so much, but that will have to be seen).
However, HBO Max also aims to repeat the strategy, after the merger with Discovery+ is completed, it will become more expensive and will supplement the offer with a cheaper tariff supplemented with advertising. We’ll have to see if they manage to squeeze out the staff with this new invention, it’s worth repeating, but in principle it doesn’t look like it means anything good for users who barely save a few euros, nor for a platform whose business model does not lead to promised.
By the way, Disney+ will start this new journey backed by consistent data, and it’s the case that according to what they announced after their last fiscal report, the service already has 164.2 million users Worldwide. Combined with Hulu and ESPN+, which the company also owns, it has more than 235 million subscribers.
