The German Navy tested the “Vulcano 127” ammunition

The Vulcano 127 high-precision ammunition was successfully tested on the F125-class German frigate. The Vulcano 127mm and 155mm family of high-precision ammunition was developed by Diehl Defense and Leonardo. Requirements for future ammunition manufacturers were set in the governments of Italy and Germany. Therefore, “Vulcano” received compatibility with all 127-mm and 155-mm weapon systems.

The Navy launched the Vulcano from a Leonardo 127/64 light naval gun mounted on an F125-class frigate. The tests included the entire complex, including programming and firing, with confirmation of range and accuracy in operational conditions.

Ammunition “Vulcano” is designed for high-precision hitting targets: 70 kilometers for “Vulcano155” and 80 km for “Vulcano127”. Basic configurations were tested with the blast height sensor and others, as well as the SAL and FarIR homing sensors. These systems make the Vulcano family one of the most sensitive artillery munitions for use on land and at sea.

A powerful high-explosive high-explosive warhead with fragmented tungsten elements is most effective against inconspicuous targets, vehicles, semi-armored vehicles, infrastructure facilities and all typical infantry commands.

Successful tests pave the way for the adoption of this system by the German Navy. We will remind you that Ukraine will also receive ammunition “Vulcano”. It is likely that the artillery of the ZSU was “Vulcano 155”. In August, the German government issued a statement regarding the purchase of 225 “Vulcano” ammunition for the Ukrainian Armed Forces together with the EU. Source
