GPD Win 4 Funding Campaign Posted on Indiegogo

Financial campaign GPD Win 4 It has already been published on Indiegogo for the launch at the end of this month of November 2022. In addition, we find confirmation of a change in processor technology, coming from the Intel Tiger Lake used by the third generation to the mentioned AMD Ryzen 7 6800U CPU with integrated Radeon 680M graphics and based on the RDNA 2 architecture.

Moving from Intel to Ryzen APUs makes a lot of sense given that AMD has more powerful and advanced integrated graphics accelerators than Intel. The move to the RDNA 2 architecture is another aspect to consider, as according to what the company posted on the Indiegogo campaign to fund the GPD Win 4, “compared to the RDNA 1 architecture, it offers a 30% increase in frequency with the same level of power consumption , leading to an increase in power per watt of up to 54%. The Radeon 680M graphics accelerator is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor with 12 computing units and 768 shaders.

AMD’s commitment to technology might sound like a slow move from what Valve did with the Steam Deck, and it appears to be if we see the Indiegogo campaign suggesting that GPD Win 4 will be able to dual boot support with Windows 11 and SteamOS, also with customizability supplied by Valve itself. At the end of the day, Gabe Newell’s company is interested in consolidating its own ecosystem through Steam.

Continuing with other mini-PC features, it has a 6 inch screen protected by Gorilla Glass 5, with native wide-angle mode that works with 16:9 aspect ratio and resolution 1920×1080 pixels and 1280×720 pixels plus 40 and 60 Hz refresh rates.

At the memory level, GPD Win 4 s will be available for purchase 16 or 32 GB LPDDR5 RAM at 6,400 MHz and data storage will be made available 1 or 2 terabytes in M.2 format next to the microSD slot with support for cards up to 2 TB.

Once it features USB 4.0 at 40 Gb/s, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C at 10 Gb/s, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A at 10 Gb/s, and a 3.5mm audio jack. In addition, the docking station will make available HDMI 2.0, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A at 10 Gbps, an RJ45 connector for gigabit Ethernet and USB 3.2 Type-C, which will only perform the function of charging the battery. At the wireless level, we find Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and the option to add 4G LTE on request.

The lithium polymer battery promises to offer two hours of autonomy with heavy use, three to six hours in moderate use and up to ten in moderate use. Needless to say, if you want to have some autonomy with a device with these characteristics, it is advisable to use a low resolution, set the frame rate to 45 frames per second and the graphics quality to the minimum.

The dimensions of the GPD Win 4 are 220 x 92 x 28 millimeters and its weight is 570 grams. Compared to the Steam Deck, it stands out by being smaller and making available a physical keyboard that sits below the screen, but it will have to be seen if this translates into higher temperatures and a weaker device, as in the end it’s still a relatively powerful x86 PC packed into a small space and has more gadgets. In general, in these areas, greater complexity leads to greater risk of cracking.
