As PetaPixel reports, Leica has announced the new Leitz Phone 2 (Leitz Phone 1, but with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and higher resolution Type 1 camera sensor). And he will have a Leica red dot on his back.

It will only be sold in Japan and will cost ¥225,360 (about $1,588). Or you can buy almost the same phone for 189,360 yen, which is about $200 cheaper. This would be the Aquos R7 manufactured by Sharp, the licensee responsible for manufacturing the Leitz Phone 2.

The Phone 2 (like the R7) has a 6.6-inch OLED display, a 5,000mAh battery, and a single rear camera with a massive 47-megapixel Type 1 sensor, which Leica claims is the largest sensor in a smartphone.

What does the surcharge give other than the branded red dot on the back panel? There is a magnetic lens cover for the rear camera. And you get several custom widgets: one that tracks the golden hour based on your location, and an image gallery from Leica photographers.
