Microsoft’s Windows 11 22H2 update became generally available late last month and brings several new features and bug fixes. However, shortly after the Windows 11 22H2 update rolled out, Nvidia GeForce users complained of low and unstable framerates, lag, and widespread CPU underutilization in games (some users had rates as low as 5 percent).

Microsoft has listened to all complaints and is taking steps to limit the impact of performance issues on Windows 11 users who have not yet downloaded the latest update. The company acknowledged that “some games and applications may perform lower than expected or may hang on Windows 11 version 22H2”.

According to Microsoft, the software bug causes applications and games that rely on the GPU to run non-consumer debugging functions. Unfortunately, this bug causes the sharp performance drop that players are experiencing.

Microsoft says it’s suspending the Windows 11 22H2 update for affected system configurations. Therefore, if you have not yet installed Windows 11 22H2, it will not be sent to your system via Windows Update until Microsoft acknowledges that the issue has been resolved. Microsoft also warns against manually updating using the media creation tool or the Update Now button in Windows Update to bypass this Windows Update protection.

If you’ve already installed the Windows 11 22H2 update, Microsoft provides general guidance on how to keep your games and apps up to date. “We are working on a solution and will provide an update in the next version,” the company said. However, Microsoft has not provided a timeline for a software solution to this problem. While Microsoft is working behind the scenes to fix Windows 11 22H2 gaming performance issues, Nvidia has already released GeForce Experience software to fix the issue. Source
