Ukraine will use naval drones to protect grain corridor

Vasyl Bodnar, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Turkey, explained why Ukraine started a fundraising campaign to buy naval drones. First of all, they need to protect against Russian cruise missile ships and protect merchant ships from possible attacks by the Russian Federation. Vasyl Bodnar told this to Naval News.

A drone fleet may be faced with the task of protecting merchant ships from possible Russian attacks. Let me remind you, since the beginning of the war, it was the Russian fleet that blocked the Ukrainian ports, attacked merchant ships, Ukrainian cities, infrastructure and occupied part of our lands.‘ said the ambassador.

He also emphasized that the invaders fired more than 4500 missiles on the territory of Ukraine, and every fifth of them were fired from naval ships. Vasyl Bodnar emphasized that some of the ships of the Russian fleet are located in the temporarily occupied ports of Ukraine, therefore they are a legitimate target for the Ukrainian defense forces. According to the ambassador, the names of the first three drones are planned to be “Kherson”, “Mariupol” and “Sevastopol”. In the first days of the campaign, it was possible to collect 120 million hryvnia, enough for 12 UAVs.

The Ukrainian people are well organized and very supportive of such initiatives.“, Vasyl Bodnar stressed.

On November 5, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a fundraising campaign to create a fleet of waterplanes. It is planned to raise funds for 100 such drones. The cost of one complex is 10 million hryvnia. These are multifunctional drones developed in Ukraine.
