Last Thursday (10) Amazon introduced sparrow, a modern robot capable of detecting, selecting and processing products individually. The new smart assistant promises to help employees and simplify the order fulfillment process by moving groceries to their packaging.

According to Amazon in a blog post, the new machine is aimed at reduce the number of repetitive tasks what your human workers should do.

Before the new implementation, the technology used in Amazon’s warehouses focused on moving already packaged products, requiring employees to put them in boxes.

“Sparrow represents a significant advance in advanced industrial robotics technology. Using computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI), Sparrow can recognize and process millions of items. Last year, with the support of Amazon technology, our employees around the world collected, stored or packaged about 5 billion packages, or more than 13 million packages per day. Robotic technology allows us to work smarter, not harder, to work efficiently and safely.”showed Amazon.

Help for employees and customers

According to the company, technological advances Sparrow will not replace your employees, but will help them.as the robot will perform repetitive tasks, allowing Amazon employees to focus their time and energy on other services.

At the same time, Sparrow promises to improve efficiency by automating a critical part of Amazon’s fulfillment process, allowing the company to continue delivering products to its customers faster.

Amazon claims that its robots are not replacing human jobs. According to The Verge, the company points out that the main goal of introducing such technologies is to make robots and humans work together in a safe and harmonious way.

The Amazon publication also highlights an apprenticeship program that aims to train workers to maintain robotic systems in warehouses. To this end, projects and the introduction of robotics and technology into operations have already created more than 700 new job categories.

The company says: “These new role types, which employ tens of thousands of people across Amazon, are helping to demonstrate the positive impact that technology and robotics can have on our people and our workplace. Help them transition and advance their careers into positions that work with our technology is an important part of how we will continue to innovate.”
