Hand in hand with the introduction of the GeForce RTX 40, NVIDIA also surprised us with the presentation of DLSS 3a new iteration of its AI-based superscaling technology that represents an impressive leap in quality compared to its predecessor DLSS 2, which itself also represents an impressive improvement in performance compared to what the system does not enable with this feature.
The only “but” that can be put into DLSS 3 is that only supports RTX 40 graphics cards. It is true that there was a story circulating on the Internet about a user who claimed to have activated it on a previous generation GeForce by editing a configuration file, but the truth is that he never provided any proof of this, which further contributed to the fact that the method that he claimed that she continued was somewhat dubious, giving him the bare minimum level of credibility.
So until the arrival of the most basic models of this new generation, for now it is only possible to take advantage of this technology if you have a GeForce RTX 4090 or, starting tomorrow, if you get a GeForce RTX 4080. And a limited range, which in theory could directly affect the speed with which developers decided to implement DLSS 3 in their titles. And I say it would make sense to think about it… but it would be a mistake.
And we have to realize that NVIDIA offers technology but it’s the developers who have to implement it, if they wish, in their titles. And yes, it’s not clear to me that the tech company has a good relationship with the studio, but the fact that there is a smooth collaboration between the parties does not prevent the developers from having to roll up their sleeves and get to work. Something that, as we can see by looking at the list of compatible titles, seems to be happening at a very, very good pace.
And what does a good rhythm mean? Recall that the first model of the RTX 40 series, the GeForce RTX 4090, went on sale on October 12, while the GeForce RTX 4080 16GB will debut in stores tomorrow. So when November ends, we’ll only be talking about a month and a half of availability, a period that will close with no less than 42 games compatible with DLSS 3. This is the full list:
So, as you can see, we have already talked about this quite a wide selection of games ready to take advantage of it to the functions of DLSS 3, both in image enhancement and in functions as surprising and interesting as the generation of intermediate frames, doubling the frame rate in this mode without requiring more power from the processor, which in many cases becomes a bottleneck.
