As Neowin wrote, Microsoft will end support for the Windows 8.1 operating system on January 10, 2023, as announced by the company’s press service. Computers running this operating system will continue to work after this date, but users will no longer receive technical support for all issues. Also, after January 10, 2023, Windows 8.1 will stop receiving software updates and fixes for security vulnerabilities, putting users’ information security at risk.
Although you can continue to use your Windows 8.1 computer without constant software and security updates, your computer will be at higher risk of being infected with viruses and malware. We still recommend upgrading to a supported version of Windows. Microsoft
Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 11, which it calls “the most secure version of Windows ever, with comprehensive protection that includes antivirus, firewall, Internet protection, and more.” According to Neowin, this also means the end of support for Microsoft 365 (Office) apps and the possibility to purchase them from the Microsoft Store in Windows 8.1.
