Samsung is working on the Exynos 1330 and 1380, two new mid-range SoCs

The future of Samsung’s Exynos SoC has been left in doubt, especially after Qualcomm confirmed that the Galaxy S23 will only use the new Snapdragon 8 Gen2 SoC,

The future of Samsung’s Exynos SoC has been left in doubt, especially after Qualcomm confirmed that the Galaxy S23 will only use the new Snapdragon 8 Gen2 SoC, a chip that was recently unveiled and will the new top of the line from the San Diego company.

However, the Exynos range is not limited to high-end chips, it also consists of several mid-range models and even some lower-end ones, so the fact that Samsung has excluded the Exynos 2300 doesn’t necessarily mean the end of this SoC family, and today we could actually confirm that the opposite will be the case, as the South Korean giant plans to announce at least two new mid-range and lower-mid-range chips.

In the Bluetooth SIG database we were able to find two references to Exynos 1330 and 1380 SoCs. Both will be used in the new Samsung Galaxy-A series of smartphones, which will debut in the first quarter of next year, and will feature connectivity. Bluetooth 5.3 thanks to the Samsung Bluetooth Controller V6 RF chip.

Information is still scarce, but the Exynos 1380 is rumored to replace the 1280 and will be used in Galaxy A74 and Galaxy A54. The Exynos 1330 will replace the 850 and will be integrated into the models Galaxy A3X, and maybe even in lower models. As you could imagine, the first one is the most powerful and according to the first information it will be configured with Cortex-A710 cores in the high-performance block and the Cortex-A510 cores in its high-efficiency block. Its GPU would be Mali-G615 and it would have a 5G modem.

Exynos 1330 should represent uA major improvement over the Exynos 850, as the latter only uses Cortex-A55 cores. Its successor could have two blocks of cores, one with higher performance based on the Cortex-A7X architecture and the other with low consumption focused on the Cortex-A55 architecture. Its specific GPU has not been revealed, but we can expect a lower-mid range Mali.

Before I finish, I want to remind you that although Samsung is not launching the Exynos 2300 to accompany the Galaxy S23, It doesn’t mean, at least at this point, that I’m going to throw in the towel in the field of high-end SoCs. The South Korean company may have decided to take some time to improve the design of its most powerful chips, and that we will see new high-performance silicon within a year or two.
