As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by NHK.
The tests are being held in Ishikari, northern Japan.
The robot is a type of vehicle with 20 small cells. Cameras and sensors help the robot get around pedestrians and other obstacles. Its maximum speed is 15 kilometers per hour.
During the introduction of the device, it was possible to deliver parcels along the specified route. Customers used passwords to access cells to retrieve their items.
“The robot must avoid obstacles under various conditions. Technically speaking, this is the most important part if we want to make the robot truly autonomous for commercial use,” said Hiroshi Yoshida of Kyocera Communication Systems.
He said delivery companies in Japan are now seeking automation to cope with labor shortages due to increased demand from online retailers.
As quoted by Ukrinform, the American technology company Labrador Systems presented a personal robot to help elderly people in daily life.
