ISTANBUL (IGFA) – Microsoft has published the Digital Defense Report 2022, sharing insights on how the digital threat landscape is evolving and how to mitigate these issues.

One of the report’s standout findings was that password attacks increased by 74 percent compared to last year’s results, to about 921 attacks per second.

Microsoft also removed 10,000 domains used by cybercriminals and 600 domains used by national actors. In addition, 93 percent of the company’s response tasks to ransomware incidents indicate a lack of privileged access and adequate control over lateral movement.

Gürcan Şen, technical manager of ESET Turkey, emphasized that passwords are still an easy bite for malicious people.

Şen argues that attackers infiltrate corporate networks to look realistic before launching phishing attacks. “Victims can be tricked as if they are meeting a real person, even if they think they are careful on a website, because the attack is planned correctly and in detail. . About a thousand attacks per second is a pretty high number, but there’s still a lot individuals and companies can do to reduce it. Passwords continue to be a problem in people’s lives because layers of security are often unknown or untrusted. Using password managers on devices ensures that unique and strong passwords can be created for all accounts. “More importantly, defining two-factor authentication for every account greatly reduces the impact of phishing attacks.”
