With the beginning of hostilities, the Dnipro Aeronautical Modeling Federation developed and produced unmanned aerial systems from simple and affordable materials. Since the beginning of the war, the company has collected more than 100 Chaklun aircraft.
“Chaklun” is a complex of reconnaissance aircraft equipped with an electric motor. The complex includes two aircraft. It works in autonomous mode, does not require a special communication task (route). The operator sees the position of the UAV on the control panel. The Chaklun drone weighs 2.2 kg. The launch is carried out manually. Preparation for the flight takes 5 minutes. The working distance is 100 km, the maximum altitude is 3000 meters. It develops speed up to 130 km/h.
The team employs top experts who not only manufacture drones, but also train the military to operate “Witches”.
“The company can produce a hundred Chaklun drones a month. But there is a big problem: the army buys birds with its own money. And that is sad. So we are not working at full capacity yet, but we can produce much more. Our UAVs are deployed on the entire front line in Ukraine. At the state level. “We’re already gaining respect, we’re collaborating slowly. But it’s a very long process. That’s why we need support. It’s a shame that the military independently buys what they are fighting for,” says Dmytro Panchenko, president and developer of the Dnipropetrovsk Region Air Model Sports Federation, “says.
Dmytro Panchenko says reconnaissance planes are valuable “consumables.” A drone can make 10 flights, but record holders have already made more than 100 flights. It depends not only on the skill of the pilot, but also on success.
“But one flight is enough for the drone to pay for itself. For example, we are flying over the enemy’s anti-aircraft defenses, but that will do nothing. We have their coordinates. This is of course in the interest of the army, of our victory,” he said.
The production of “Chakloon” unmanned aerial vehicles does not stop, they have developed 5 different UAV models even with night vision devices. A matrix has been developed to speed up assembly, and they plan to make the body and some components in Ukraine.
“We can produce more than 100 boards per month. Hiring more people, finding facilities is okay, but we need help here,” said Dmytro.
In addition, Dmytro Panchenko noted that they plan to switch to a “heavier” class and develop a UAV with an internal combustion engine. So far it’s only a carrier, but it can carry both reconnaissance and payload. Source
