With its scheduled release, at least in the United States, on June 16, 2023Elemental aims to be the next big blockbuster from Pixar, a studio that has existed for several decades and proposes a very personal approach to emotions and that renews the path of other productions of the Disney studio, such as Inside Out, WALL-E, Cars, Bugs or the saga, that started it all, Toy Story. I mean, of course, transferring emotions to places we wouldn’t imagine: toys, cars, insects… wow, he even transfers emotions to emotions themselves, like in Inside Out.
In this case, Elemental takes us to Ciudad Elemento, a highly populated, active and contemporary city, but with a unique difference that you could probably deduce from its name. And its inhabitants are indeed not made of flesh and bones. Once again, Pixar exercises the creative imagination and through it leads us to a world of creatures composed of one of the four elements: water, earth, fire, and air.
But that its basic composition does not make you think of flames and drops of water without further ado. As we can see in the first trailer for Pixar-Disney’s Elemental just a few hours ago, on his YouTube channel, each of the four elements allows us to outline the most specific and complex creatures that will certainly give rise to a lot of jokes, games and plots during the film. And I remember it again, we are talking about Pixar, one of the most creative studios today.
Interaction between characters, and thus their elementsThey will play a key role in the film. More precisely, its at least apparent incompatibility. And so it is that after the trailer showed us the interior of a train inhabited by creatures going to Element City, the trailer shows us Candela and Nilo, Ember and Wade in their original version. As you can tell from their names, Candela is a fire creature while Nilo is made of water. And although mutual interest seems to arise from the first moment, the nature of each of them will act as a bump in their relationship.
Directed by Peter SohnThe Pixar veteran, who has already contributed in various roles to several titles and other studio projects, will provide the voices Leah Lewis (The Half of It) as Candela and Mamoudou Athie (Archive 81, Black Box) as Nilo. Two fairly young actors (like the characters they play in Elemental) but with a lot of potential and could see their careers get a big boost thanks to being part of Pixar’s latest. .
Considering the trailer, it seems that the study hit the right button again, although we will have to wait a few more months for its confirmation. Of course, and I’m sorry, but I have to say this, if at the end of the tape (I admit it happens in the intro or post credit scenes) it wasn’t done even once a pun in the film’s title and the requisite “Dear Watson”, I will be really disappointed. Pixar, I hope you took note.
