It turned out that Apple products that had not been updated caused eavesdropping on Siri conversations with Bluetooth access in particular.
ISTANBUL (IGFA) – A vulnerability in Apple’s iOS and macOS operating systems could allow apps with Bluetooth access to eavesdrop on conversations with Siri. Users who have updated the operating system are not affected by this vulnerability.
Apple acknowledged the problem, saying “An app can record audio with a connected AirPod”. The Core Bluetooth issue in iOS 16.1 was assigned the identifier CVE-2022-32946, which is named SiriSpy. A software patch has been released to fix the bug for iPhone 8 and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 3 generation and later, iPad 5 generation and later, and iPad mini 5 generation and later. It was also fixed with the October 24 update for all supported versions of macOS. However, millions of devices that are not receiving updates are currently not protected against this issue.
“Any app with Bluetooth access can record your conversations with Siri and audio from the iOS keyboard dictation when using AirPods or Beats headphones,” app developer Guilherme Rambo wrote in a post. This happens without the app requesting access to the microphone and without leaving any trace that the app is listening to the microphone.” explained as
MUST HAVE CRITICAL UPDATES FOR ALL PHONES
BeyazNet CTO Akgün Uyan said that the owners of the phones, for which Apple has announced they have withdrawn their update support, are under serious threat, BeyazNet CTO Akgün Uyan said: “While the world is going through a severe recession, the biggest technology giants have to go through their consumers. If the manufactured phone works, support should not be interrupted. Although support is being discontinued, this update should apply to all versions to compensate for such later manufacturer error. This is especially necessary in the current circumstances. Phones that can’t get the update with such a serious flaw could be subject to serious lawsuits.” said.
