Acer has announced the launch of a new Aspire 3 series laptop that features the Ryzen Mendocino APU that it uses as its hardware base.

Introduced last spring, the ‘Mendocino’ series are APUs designed for motorization of notebooks with high consumption (or mini-PC). They include the CPU, GPU and memory controller in the same package and are manufactured by TSMC on a modern 6nm process node. Recall that AMD decided to use the ZEN2 architecture and not the new ZEN3 for reasons of cost and consumption. This (if the user knows what he is buying) may not be a negative because the selling price is fixed and as you will see, a device with these chips is very cheap.

AMD has also improved the graphics part of the oa integrated with the RDNA2 architecture. These notebook SoCs are powered by LPDDR5 memory (in two or four channels). The rest of its I/O features, connectivity and power optimization are the same as those used by the Ryzen 6000 series. Speaking of power, AMD promises these devices will offer up to 10 hours of battery life.

It is a notebook (model A315-24P-R75B) with a 15.6-inch screen and FHD resolution. It includes at least 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD storage.

AMD offers two chip options, Ryzen 3 7320U or Ryzen 5 7520U. Both are low-power (15W) APUs with a 4-core processor and 8 native processing threads, 6MB cache and integrated graphics. AMD Radeon 610M. The difference between them is based on the operating frequency, for Ryzen 5 up to 4.3 GHz.

It supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth, has stereo speakers, a headphone output and a webcam, and has HDMI ports, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps with support for video output and 45 W charging) and 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 type A ports. Its weight is 1.8 kg and its autonomy increases to 10 hours.

A basic team, but with enough competition for the middle class, with Windows 11 Home pre-installed and at a price 399 dollars really attractive. More models of this type will arrive with the Mendocino, as well as Chromebooks, as AMD has already announced that it will natively support Chrome OS.
