One of Elon Musk’s main actions once he took over Twitter was to change the requirements to get the desired verified social network. As we already told you, he decided to inextricably link it with Twitter Blue, the payment method of the social network. In this way, the famous blue tick would stop showing that the person or company is of public importance and is really who they say they are, to become an indicator that the user has been verified by the social network. And of course it would go from free to the price of what a subscription would cost, eight dollars a month.

You already know what happened next: hundreds (if not thousands) of accounts paid Twitter Blue for verification, but contrary to what Musk claimed, their identity was not verified, and users were also able to make changes to their profiles after acquiring it (something that was very limited in the old model). Impact? Allegedly verified accounts impersonating corporate profiles (with disastrous consequences for them), all sorts of personalities, and the favorite choice of many pranksters and scammers: including Musk himself.

While at first it seemed like he was taking it as a joke (remember his tweet from a few weeks ago stating that humor is already legal on Twitter), the proliferation of Twitter Blue accounts (and some famous ones too) decided to take advantage of the control blue impersonating his identity quickly ran out of patience, so Twitter began requiring all accounts that behaved this way to add the word parody (parody) in title (not in description or identifier) or they would be permanently banned from the social network.

This measure did not calm the mood of users, the list of affected companies and personalities continued to grow, and Elon Musk decided, certainly quite angrily temporarily suspend hiring Twitter Blue for those accounts that still don’t have it. He indicated that yes, it was a temporary measure and that he planned to reactivate it as soon as possible. Of course, as soon as possible, but only after finding a solution to this problem.

And it seems that the solution has already appeared, because according to what we can read in Engadget, new accounts will have to wait 90 days to sign up for Twitter Blue. A period that, according to what the company should consider, will discourage many users who want to sign up to get verified and continue impersonating businesses and celebrities on the social network.

It will work? Yes… at least for the first 90 days after reactivating the option to sign up for Twitter Blue, a term that allows the social network work to introduce the necessary measures to combat this problem. So the key is whether they succeed, as there is nothing stopping scammers from starting today, setting up new accounts and following the 90 days, then returning to the original plan when they are done.
