Mario and the Rabbids join forces once again in this new turn-based strategy adventure: Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. And it is that with the success of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, which has accumulated more than 10 million players today, it was not expected that Nintendo and Ubisoft have joined forces once again to develop this sequel.

We had the opportunity to test Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Gold Edition for Nintendo Switch and It turned out to be a big surprise, and even more so for those of us who couldn’t enjoy the first installment; is a game that catch you right from the start and will leave you wanting to play for hours and hours.

What is Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope about and how does it play?

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope puts us back in control of a blue overalls-wearing Nintendo plumber who discovers with the company that Cursa is using Sparks to spread Ascority, a black substance wreaking havoc on Rabbids worlds. That the heroes’ mission will be to save the universe and save Sparks from the villain.

Well, the genre of this piece (like the previous one) is turn-based strategy; and for those of us who haven’t played the first part”Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle”, we were surprised to see Mario and his friends in this type of video game.

In order to play, we will have to move characters around the stages to shoot enemies, using the unique abilities that each character has. At the same time, we have to choose the best place to hide from opponents’ attacks and prevent them from harming us. Protecting yourself is very important because once we attack we’ve used up our turn so we won’t be able to move our heroes until we’ve spent all the turns and that our rivals have also made their strategic moves. We will have to “know how to move the chess pieces” in order to defeat the enemies and ensure that our heroes take zero or minimal damage in each fight.

Gaming experience

It’s not hard to play, but we have to admit that to begin with we had a hard time understanding how to use the Joy-Con to aim, shoot, and even surrender; and if it’s the case that you didn’t play the prequel like we did We assure you that it won’t take you long to find the trick.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope allows us to select team members and as we progress through the adventure, we will be able to choose between three and four members to join us in battle. Our personal choice for completing the missions was Mario, Princess Peach and Edge, because their weapons have a better attack range, meaning they can fire from long distances and deal damage to multiple enemies at once.

On the other hand, Coins can be obtained by going through scenarios or winning a battle. Coins that we can later use to buy items in the OfertaBot store 9.99 + VAT. In addition, on more than one occasion we will have to fight against enemies in order to complete certain missions to unlock paths and get stars to help us level up Sparks which we saved.
