Elon Musk, the new owner of the Twitter company, introduced the “Twitter 2.0” concept, whose priority is the encryption of personal messages.

Ukrinform announced this at a meeting with company employees at its headquarters in San Francisco, citing The Verge.

According to the new concept, the encryption of personal messages will be emphasized. In addition, the company will try to add encrypted video and voice calling functionality between accounts.

“We want users to be able to communicate with their privacy and without worrying about a data leak from Twitter that puts all of their private messages online, or someone on Twitter being able to spy on their private messages. Frankly, that’s not good. and it’s happened a few times already,” Musk said.

As the post wrote, in 2018 Twitter warned that a certain number of messages between companies and their customers had been accessible to third parties for over a year. And earlier this year, the US government accused a former Twitter employee of hacking user data.

Twitter has launched and then discontinued its encrypted messaging service several times over the years. But now Musk is determined to roll out this feature, which will become a priority for the company.

Musk also praised the non-commercial encrypted messenger Signal. Musk said he spoke to creator Moxie Marlinspike, who is now “potentially willing to help” with encrypting Twitter messages.

As Ukrinform reported, Elon Musk completed the acquisition of the Twitter platform for $44 billion in October. Immediately after the acquisition, he consolidated his control over the company and dissolved the board of directors.
