The UK government is launching an innovative program to support the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce carbon emissions.
According to Ukrinform, this is stated in the government’s statement.
“The implementation of these (AI-based) technologies will allow us to save energy costs for businesses and households, create high-skilled jobs and attract millions of pounds of private investment while supporting the zero (carbon emissions – ed.) goal.” said Science Minister George Freeman.
The government is providing £1.5m for the AI for Decarbonisation Programme. It will be released in two phases. In the first, up to £500,000 will be available to fund a virtual Center for AI and Decarbonisation Innovation by March 2025.
In the second phase, up to £1m of money will already be available, which will be used to fund innovative projects that will encourage the development of AI-based technologies to support the decarbonisation process.
In 2023, the government plans to allocate additional funds to support priority areas of AI innovation identified as critical by the virtual hub.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Climate Office will be operational in Ukraine, which will provide support to regions and businesses in the implementation of climate targets on the path to decarbonisation.
