Ever since business tycoon Elon Musk took over the social media platform Twitter, many of its users have started to switch to other similar social networks like Mastodon. Another Twitter alternative called Hive is also seeing rapid growth in signups and has reached one million users as of today.
According to a TechCrunch report, Hive started gaining popularity before Musk bought Twitter. Over the weekend, the app saw a resurgence in sign-ups when hundreds of Twitter employees rejected Elon Musk’s ultimatum. It is one of the most popular apps on the US App Store and Google Play, according to research firm Sensor Tower.

Founded by Raluca in 2019, Hive is a social media application that combines the concepts of various social networks such as Instagram and Twitter. The app has a home feed and themed communities such as Cars, Music, Fashion, Travel, Technology, Memes, Pets, Crafts & Books and much more. You can like, comment and repost content and click hashtags.
Hive uses the same follower system as Twitter. You can choose pronouns, view your astrological sign, and even add your favorite songs to a MySpace profile (the app says the feature is still in development).
Unlike most social networks, Hive uses a chronological feed to display content, rather than customization algorithms. It also doesn’t make money with ads. Instead, Hive lets you unlock additional slots for your favorite songs. According to the app’s listing on the App Store, the second slot will cost you $0.99, while the third and fourth slots will cost you $1.99. Currently, Hive does not have a desktop client and is only accessible on iOS and Android devices.
