NewPipe is one of the best-placed alternative YouTube clients for Android after the closure of YouTube Vanced, and if you didn’t know it and decided to try it, one of the things you can do to make the experience as pleasant as possible is to import your subscriptions so that you have everything ready for immediate use.

why use NewPipe instead of YouTube It’s up to everyone, but since the official app is much better in every way, there are two reasons that can weigh more or less: NewPipe is an open source app that respects privacy and, however badly it knows how to say it, , advertising and the fact is that the number of ads that YouTube puts in all videos has increased to an unbearable level. And yes, NewPipe frees you from that.

In the YouTube menu, select “Your YouTube data” and it will take you to an intermediate page with traffic information, and after clicking the “Download YouTube data” button, you will be taken to Google Takeout. Follow the instructions to download the ZIP file… but be careful.

You have to choose exactly which files you want to download, as the direct export includes both YouTube and YouTube Music data, and if you have songs uploaded to the service, the process can take hours. Access to «All YouTube data was included» and uncheck everything except what you want to export. Subscriptions are of course the minimum necessary for the given task.

When the file is ready, download and extract it. It will generate several folders and several files, but the one you are interested in is “subscription.cvs«. Then open NewPipe, type “Subscription” and select “Import from > IMPORT FILE” from the top dot menu. Select the file and press it. That is all.
