In the United States, an authentication ceremony was held for the keel of the “Arkansas” Virginia-class submarine. The ceremony was held at Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Newport News Shipbuilding facility. The SN-800 “Arkansas” multipurpose nuclear submarine will be the 27th “Virginia” class submarine in the US fleet. Construction of the Arkansas submarine began in March 2018. “Virginia” class submarines are multi-purpose ZPTs designed for operations at large and shallow depths.

It is also designed for anti-submarine and anti-ship warfare, delivery of small groups of special operations forces to the place of operation, initiation of attacks on land targets using sea-based cruise missiles, surveillance and reconnaissance, installation of sea mines.

The Virginia-class UAVs are being built under a collaboration agreement signed by General Dynamics Electric Boat and HII Newport News Shipbuilding. In total, for the US Navy, it is planned to build more than 30 APCs of the “Virginia” series (now 38 submarines of the series are ordered), constantly improving their combat capabilities. To date, 21 APCs of the series have been transferred to the US Navy.

In addition to 18 submarines built in “Block I”, “Block II” and “Block III” variants, it is planned to build 10 submarines in the “Block IV” variant, 10 submarines in the “Block V” variant, and five boats. In “Block VI” and five “Block VII” variants.

“Arkansas” will be built in the “Block IV” variant. The APCs of this version received a number of design changes, the purpose of which was to increase the service life between repairs, reducing overall cost and increasing operational readiness.

In April 2022, Newport News Shipbuilding shipyard launched the “Virginia” class SSN-796 “New Jersey”, SSN-798 “Massachusetts” is also under construction.

The displacement of the “Virginia” submarines reaches 7,800 tons, the length is 115 meters. They are capable of developing speeds of up to 34 knots underwater. The diving working depth is 250 meters. Nuclear submarines are equipped with four 533 mm torpedo tubes. Ammunition – 25 torpedoes and 12 Tomahawk missiles. Source
