Tarsus Women and Children Science and Technology Workshop students associated with Mersin Metropolitan Municipality met students from Eskişehir with the ‘Distances Do Not Obstacle Science’ project. During the event, students from Tarsus taught their experiences in the workshop to students living in Eskişehir.
MERSIN (IGFA) – Emre Aşkın, head of the workshop for women and children in the field of science and technology, gave information about the event and said that their aim is that the students who have been studying in the workshop for a long time will teach students who have not been trained on this subject before in Eskişehir. About, “We planned this event in consultation with the Children’s Rights Unit of Eskişehir Municipality. We set out under the name ‘Distances are no obstacle to science’. In this context, we wanted to hit other children with this torch that we lit.” said.
Aşkın: “Our children will make a difference in Turkey with the projects they develop”
Noting that they have participated in very good events in Eskişehir and that they will receive students from Eskişehir in Mersin in April, Aşkın said: “We also had the chance to discover the cultural wealth of Eskişehir. While our children were taught until noon, we took part in cultural activities organized by Eskişehir Municipality in the afternoon. he said.
Emre Aşkın, who also gave information about the Tarsus Women and Children Science and Technology Workshop, stated that they provided educational opportunities to all children aged 7-17 in the workshop, “In this context, we provide continuing education to primary, secondary and high school groups. Here we let them develop projects and we believe that with these projects they will make a difference in Turkey. In short, we strive to spread this torch we have lit throughout our country.” he said.

At the event at the Sabancı Space House in Eskişehir, 13-year-old Kuzey Üçkan said he was in charge of robot coding and gave his friends there information about how the robot is controlled and how the robot is controlled. “My goal is to become a mechanical engineer in the future and for this I have built a robot in the workshop, the BB-8 robot. Actually, I also do this kind of thing at home, but since there are more options here, it is a bit easier to do different things.” said.
Azra Gülmen, 12, noted that they had a chance to get to know the solar system better at Eskişehir Space House and stated that her goal is to become a software developer. “Together with friends, we made drawings with a 3D printer and wrote with a pen. I was already very interested in such things, so if it weren’t for this place, I might not have been able to reach my goal. Now I feel much closer to my dreams” he said.
Sema Yalçınkaya, who attended the event with her daughter Seray, stated that they had great experiences in Eskişehir. “My child learned a lot about coding with robots during this workshop and they transferred what they learned very well to their friends in Eskişehir as a team. In other words, it was very nice to both visit historical places and to transfer information from students to each other.” used his words.
