Sony has launched a series of Mocopi devices to capture people’s movements and animate 3D avatars at home. This was reported by Bloomberg.
The Mocopi is a set of six colored “discs”, four of which are worn as bracelets on the lower legs and wrists, one of which is attached as a peg to the elastic of the trousers in the tailbone area, and the last one. It is worn as a headband. “Washers” track the movements of parts of the human body and transmit them to a smartphone in a special application. The promotional video shows a young man using Mocopi to control a 3D model of an anime girl.
Mocopi’s target audience is said to be metaverses and vituber users (bloggers speaking on behalf of 3D avatars on YouTube and Twitch). Either way, a big advantage of Sony’s new product is that it lets you animate 3D avatars without using expensive and bulky motion capture cameras. It is also possible to use Mocopi with PlayStation VR2 later on.
The gadget set will be released in Japan in January 2023. Sony wants 49.5 thousand yen for innovation.
