Major office equipment manufacturer Epson has announced that laser printers are being phased out. This was reported by TechRadar.
In a message published on the company’s blog, it is said that the company decided to take such a step for the sake of ecology. According to Epson estimates, inkjet printers, which the company will focus on, consume much less electricity than laser printers.
According to company representatives, inkjet printers will help “limit resources used during production and delivery”. In the company’s materials, it is said that inkjet printers consume 85% less energy than laser printers. In addition, more carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere during the production of the latter. Laser printer production is scheduled to cease in 2026.
TechRadar journalists noted that the cost of printing a page on inkjet printers is often more expensive than on laser equipment. Also in 2021, Epson announced that it will invest Yen 100 billion in sustainable innovation.
