After a brief preview released in early October, a fleeting preview that has already revealed many unknowns for the better, Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Super Mario Bros.: The Movieone full of references to several games featuring a Nintendo character and some others.
As already known, Super Mario Bros.: The MovieIt will be released in theaters on March 31, 2023. And it’s not just any experiment for Nintendo, whose history with the big screen goes back a long way, also with Mario as the protagonist, but with a blushing failure both artistically and commercially. It doesn’t look like it will happen again.
Super Mario Bros.: The Movie It is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go! Film) written by Matthew Fogel (lego movie 2 Y Minions: The Origin of Gru) and in the original version starring, among others, Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Maria, Jack Black (School of Rock) as Bowser, Anya Taylor-Joy (queen’s gambit) as Princess Peach or Charlie Day (Pacific Rim) as Luigi.
Pictures: Universal Pictures
One of the doubts that existed about this animated adaptation was actually the choice of Pratt to give his voice to Mario, considering the style imprinted by Charles Martinet (he’s also out, you can see) over the years, but everything seems to be in place and more importantly: outside of English speaking countries, and even within them, there will be many actors who will be in charge of dubbing the character, so it’s not important.
Nor does it seem possible to object to the quality of the animation, aside from specific details that will be rather subjective in many cases. For example, the design of Peach’s face doesn’t convince me, and I see Mario as too chubby, but that’s all, details. The rest is the first to see, and what’s less, that they are doing it as they should after so many years.
Without further ado, here is the trailer Super Mario Bros.: The Movieon which it is worth repeating that it is full of references to the games Super Mario Bros.to classics and news, but there are also links to Super Mario Kartand Donkey Kong -or, for that matter, to Super Smash Bros...
