Yesterday Microsoft released build 22621.900 (KB5020044) for Windows 11 version 22H2 users. This is a relatively large update with gameplay improvements, storage notifications for OneDrive subscribers, and improvements to Windows Spotlight, among many other things. However, the update also brought a new problem in the Task Manager.
In a statement regarding known issues with Windows 11 version 22H2, Microsoft stated that the Task Manager may not display certain user interface elements with the correct colors, and these elements may become unreadable. This issue only affects those who have set a custom color mode in their Windows Personalization settings. This does not affect those using light or dark modes.
For now, Microsoft has recommended that affected users use light or dark modes while working on a fix. This can be done by opening Windows Settings and going to: Personalization > Colors > Choose your mode > Lighter/Darker.
The company hasn’t provided an ETA on how long it will take to fix the bug, but it’s likely to happen before this month’s Tuesday, which is scheduled for December 13. The issue only affects client versions of Windows 11 version 22H2, Server variants are not affected.
This isn’t the first issue with the Windows 11 2022 (version 22H2) update in the past few days. Microsoft recently fixed an issue that caused the application to freeze when switching between IME input modes, as well as other issues with Remote Desktop and Direct Access.
