A few days ago we learned the minimum requirements for The Callisto Protocol, a highly anticipated game that is already available, and the guys from KRAFTON and Striking Distance Studios took advantage of its launch to confirm recommended requirements we must meet to activate ray tracing and play it in maximum quality.
The Callisto protocol is a a cross-generational crossover title using Unreal Engine 4and that it is available for previous and current generation consoles as well as PC. So this shouldn’t be a very demanding title, but the minimum and recommended requirements we saw suggested otherwise.
At that point we didn’t know if it was due to an optimization problem or if the requirements were inflated, but today I can confirm that it ended up being a bit of both. Before I dive into the topic of performance and criticism that the Callisto protocol receives, I want to review with you these two new levels of requirements that have been confirmed by its developers.
Requirements to push the Callisto protocol high with raytracing
Unfortunately, the Callisto protocol did not arrive on PC in good condition. The first performance tests and Steam feedback I’ve seen confirm this has serious stuttering issues, mainly caused by the shader build badly optimized and that its graphic part is nothing special.
The truth is that the complaints about the graphic part do not surprise me. In the end, we have to accept what I’ve told you so many times that a cross-generational title that preserves the technical limitations imposed by the PS4 and Xbox One won’t surprise us, and that has a base that has long since expired. However, I understand that developers want to continue releasing these types of titles because of the huge user base that the old generation still has.
Callisto Protocol is one of those games that I’ve been wanting to buy and play, but I’m sure I won’t end up doing, and I will consider this when the performance and stuttering issues are fully resolved which the game represents because they are very serious. I’m not exaggerating, the settings or resolution don’t matter, and the game doesn’t work well even with the GeForce RTX 4090.
