British Navy to take delivery of first unmanned submarine

The British Navy will take delivery of the first unmanned submarine to be built under the Cetus project within two years. This is stated in a statement posted on the British government’s website.

The Royal Navy has signed a £15.4m contract with MSubs to build a state-of-the-art unmanned submarine at Plymouth”– emoticon highlights.

The new submarine will be the UK Navy’s first unmanned submarine. It is planned to be transferred to the fleet in two years. The Cetus project will be the first step in the development of unmanned submarines that will work independently or in conjunction with manned submarines, including Astute-class submarines.

The submarine will be 12 meters long, 2.2 meters in diameter and weigh 17 tons. This will make it the largest unmanned submarine among similar ships of the navies of European countries. Also, the size of the submarine will allow it to be transported in shipping containers to be placed anywhere in the world. Cetus will be able to cover more than 1,600 kilometers in a single mission. The range of the submarine can be increased by installing additional batteries.
