samsung introduced a new monitor model of its series ViewFinity S8 add Thunderbolt 4 connectivity. More specifically model S8UT The 27-inch has two Thunderbolt 4 ports built in, so in theory it would now be possible to connect a second 4K screen without using a second video output.
Last June, Samsung showed the S80PB monitor, belonging to the aforementioned ViewFinity S8 series. The said model is available in 27-inch and 32-inch sizes, both of which support native 4K resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, USB Type-C connectivity with up to 90-watt charging via USB Power Delivery, and is certified by Pantone Validated and Pantone SkinTone verified.
The ViewFinity S8 S8UT model is not a revolution compared to others previously launched, as according to Samsung it supports native resolution 3840 x 2160 pixelsrefresh rate 60Hz, 5 millisecond response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, a maximum brightness of 350 nits and lacks the VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification of its predecessor. All this is connected with a built-in sensor that can automatically adjust the brightness of the monitor according to the surrounding light conditions.
Despite losing VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, the ViewFinity S8 S8UT adds the above Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, retains the predecessor’s 90-watt fast charge and adds a secondary port capable of delivering 15 watts for connected devices. Because it has two ports, it offers various options, such as powering a laptop or Thunderbolt accessories, such as a secondary 4K monitor.
ViewFinity S8 S8UT provides additional interfaces such as Ethernet, one HDMI port and three USB 3.0 Type A connectors, so it can be said that it is also able to perform the functions of a hub. Samsung hasn’t released the price yet, but the product can be seen in the company’s store for Germany, and the S80PB model is now around 499 euros.
Obviously, the ViewFinity S8 S8UT (or ViewFinity S8 S80PB) is a gaming monitor, but it’s aimed at professionals looking for a screen that’s comfortable to work with.
