It’s been over a year since we heard about it Brave Search, the browser’s own search service, developed from Tailcat technology and of special interest for two reasons: it is a truly independent search engine that is not based on the results of Google, Bing, Yahoo! or others and respects the privacy of users.

Brave Search began its journey in June 2021, opening its beta phase to everyone, and more importantly, to all users outside of Brave, the browser in which it is the default search engine. By mid-2022, Brave Search was already serving more than 4.5 billion searches per year and counting.

But the most interesting thing about Brave Search is that it has a great quality for how up-to-date it is, both in terms of results and options, and it’s also constantly evolving and improving. And while its integration with Brave is undoubtedly a point in favor of this combination, it is not a requirement and anyone can add it to their browser and use it like with DuckDuckGo or others.

Now Brave Search is developing in its commercial aspect and they start showing adsbold text ads that stand out well from organic results while respecting user privacy: the ads that appear will be based solely on search queries, the user’s national location and the type of device you’re browsing with, without creating ad profiles.

Those who do not want to see advertising on Brave Search can access a premium plan that costs $3 a month that and that, in addition to removing ads from search results, it will serve to support the development of the service. In fact, it seems more like an apology for the latter than the removal of a few sponsored results.

The only thing that is not ready yet is the integration between search engine advertising and Brave Rewards, but that is a feature that is planned for later. In addition, Brave Search is laying the groundwork for its future, which includes Brave users, but which will also enrich the search engine market, which is not as rich in quality alternatives as it might seem.
