Analysts expect Apple to launch its first mixed reality headset in 2023. It is reported that the company has already found a name for the operating system.
xrOS instead of RealityOS or rOS. Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman believes the name choice is a sign that the launch is imminent. The company has already applied for registration of such a trademark.
“XR” is an abbreviation for “Augmented Reality”. This term applies to headsets that support both VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality). Virtual reality creates a fully computerized environment, while augmented reality superimposes data and images above the real world.
Gürman also revealed that Apple’s headset will have its own app store and versions of core apps like Messages and Maps. A VR version of FaceTime is also expected to be released.
