Experts from the iFixit company disassembled the new base model of the iPad (2022) and learned that the arrangement of parts in the new product almost completely corresponds to the two-year-old iPad Air (2020). This was reported by GSMArena.

Inside, the iPad (2022) and iPad Air (2020) differ only in the location of the front camera – in the new model it is located next to the upper horizontal bezel. In contrast, the iPad Air (2020) has a magnetic charger for the second-generation Apple Pencil. iFixit believes that the new iPad does not receive support for the new stylus, as the camera only replaces magnetic charging.

In the case of the iPad (2022), Apple used a motherboard with the same design and dimensions as the iPad Air (2020), but for some reason decided to solder a USB Type-C connector to it. At iFixit, this is considered a huge mistake because this solution makes repairing the USB slot many times more difficult and expensive. For comparison, the iPad Air (2020) used a Lightning connector, which was modular, that is, a connector disconnected from the board.

At the same time, experts praised Apple for using special stretchable bands that help remove the battery without fear of damage. Similar support items are also used on iPad Air and iPad Mini.

iFixit has not released a final repairability assessment for the iPad (2022). At the same time, the iPad Air (2020) only scores 2 out of 10. Most likely, due to the similarities between the devices, the new product has a chance to get the same score.
