The US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) announced that they are holding a competition for the creation of Ukrainian research groups.
They should include no more than five scientists, with a supervisor working at the Polish Academy of Sciences. Referring to Wnp.pl, Ukrinform reported that each group will receive $ 600,000 for three years of activity.
Scientists of Ukrainian nationality and scientists who have worked in Ukrainian scientific units as of February 24, when the war started, can participate in the competition. At the same time, Ukrainian scientists will be able to work remotely, especially when in Ukraine. The PAN reported that this initiative is a response to numerous requests and requests from Ukrainian partners, who are often unable to travel abroad.
In order for scientists to apply for participation in the program, they must first apply to the Polish Academy of Sciences. The application will then be jointly evaluated by a group of experts from the Polish Academy of Sciences and the US National Academy of Sciences. The program will start soon.
The allocation of funds for the work of research groups will depend on the quality of the proposed projects.
As you know, in March Polish and American academies announced a program to support Ukrainian researchers. So far, about 250 scientists from Ukraine have participated. Earlier, the Polish Academy of Sciences signed an agreement with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the recruitment of 64 scientists from Ukraine. The Bureau of International Affairs (PAN) has allocated more than one million zlotys (over $220,000) from its own budget for this. In addition, funding has been provided by numerous international organizations, of which the Polish Academy of Sciences is a member.
