Scientists talked about the possibility of operating Starlink equipment in extreme conditions. This was reported by Wccftech.
Media reporters drew attention to the video materials of the Oldest Ice Research Center (COLDEX), where experts showed the work of Starlink equipment. According to scientists, they use Internet service terminals at low temperatures and strong winds.
In a video posted by the organization on Twitter, the project team showed the Starlink terminal operating in cold and high winds. According to scientists, while the temperature at the Allan Hills station reaches minus 19 degrees, the equipment of Elon Musk’s company can be used at temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees. However, the situation is complicated by high winds reaching 10 meters per second.
According to the participants of the COLDEX project, satellite equipment helps them stay in touch and explore the Antarctic region. Scientists have noted that 90 percent of the planet’s ice is concentrated in Antarctica – according to their estimates, ice appeared on the continent more than 2.7 million years ago. Elon Musk, president of SpaceX, drew attention to COLDEX materials. “It’s amazing that we can see something frozen 2.7 million years ago!” – wrote the entrepreneur twitter.
