One of the largest Russian banks was subjected to a powerful hacker attack by the Ukrainian IT Army.

The company emphasizes that this DDoS attack is not only the biggest attack this year, but throughout the bank’s entire operations. They are trying to deal with the problems there, but the customers’ reaction shows that they are doing it extremely poorly.

What’s going on

The bank guarantees that customer data is safe and “protected from outside tampering”.

Analysis of the DDoS attack shows that it was planned and large-scale. Its purpose is to victimize bank customers by complicating the functioning of banking services,
– says VTB’s official press release.

Interestingly, although most of the requests for attacks on the bank’s services were created in foreign segments of the Internet, the bank reported that it was among them. there is also a significant amount of traffic from Russian IP addresses. Believing that some of these addresses may be among those involved in the attack as a result of cyber fraud, the company plans to transfer all detected Russian IP addresses to law enforcement for verification.

Who attacked VTB?

Judging by the latest reports Ukrainian Informatics Army, its specialists “placed” the VTB. Thus, two posts appeared on the organization’s Telegram channel, describing the bank’s problems and its reaction to failures.

  • So, in the first post, several screenshots are shown in which users of the VKontakte social network complain about the inoperative application and web version of the banking service, the inability to transfer and receive funds. Some customers have even announced that they are planning to discontinue the bank’s services.
  • At the same time, many reviewers are asking when the service will start, but no one gets a clear answer. The publication of the Ukrainian IT ARMY claims that VTB removed complaints from official social networks in order to hide problems with online banking.
  • The second post gives some examples complaints about not being paid. At the same time, the bank promised that the funds would be received by a certain hour, but users never received them. In these cases, VTB responds by promising to fix the problem in the near future.
