The American strategic bomber B-21 Raider, which was first shown on December 2, received a color that reduced the aircraft’s daytime visibility. Air & Space Force columnist John Tirpak talked about the differences between the new aircraft and the B-2 Spirit bomber, which made its maiden flight in 1989.
It was noted that FS 36118 Gunship Gray paint, which is effective in night operations, was used when painting the B-2. The B-21, meanwhile, is painted FS36375 “Light Compass Ghost Grey”. Tirpak suggested that the new color would reduce the aircraft’s visibility in the infrared and visible ranges.
Also, the B-21 Raider differs from the B-2 Spirit in its appearance design. The publication claims that the B-21’s skin can withstand several sorties a day, while the B-2’s skin is maintained after each sortie.
