How was your 2022 on Spotify and Apple Music?

Like every year, when we hit this date, we start seeing lists that compile the best of the year. Spotify and Apple Music are no exception in this regard, although they have a peculiarity that sets these annual summaries apart from the most searched on Google or the most watched on Netflix, to name just a few examples. And so it is that although the vast majority collects data from a large number of users, in the case of music services we find in these cases a completely personalized selection, a compilation of what we have heard the most throughout the year, and a personal retrospective that, on many occasions, also serves to recalling the events of the past twelve months, as the music is in many moments the soundtrack of said personal experiences.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not criticizing general lists, on the contrary, I also find them very interesting. For example, in the case of a Google search, probably this list (well, that list, because there are actually several) allows us to remember at a glance the most important events of the year. Actually, I think both types of lists complement each other perfectly, because while some give us quite a global vision, others use a huge level of zoom to bring us to our specific case.

The two most popular music streaming services, Spotify and Apple Music, are aware of the interest that these compilations generate among users, and subsequently create lists of the greatest hits of the year, but also generate personalized lists in which we can repeat what we heard the most during this year 2022. Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay are the names given to these compilations, and although their deployment is sometimes gradual, both compilations are already available to the vast majority of users, so you can now see your 2022 musical summary if you wish.

To check out Spotify, you have to use the Android or iOS app because it doesn’t show up in the web interface or desktop client, at least for now. So, with the app installed, open your smartphone’s browser, go to spotify.com/wrapped and confirm in your browser that you want to open the Spotify app (using the Download Spotify button, even if you already have the app installed). This way, after a few seconds you will be able to see your playlist, as well as general lists of the year and some recommendations based on your reproductions.

In the case of Apple Music, you can access it directly from your PC browser. Go to music.apple.com/es/replay and there you will find a very complete overview with the most listened songs, the playlists you used the most, the total time you spent listening to each artist, the time you listened to each song… in short, a summary of the most complete that your year 2022 has been, musically speaking.
