South Korean automaker Hyundai has created a prototype car door handle that can be controlled with remote gestures.
As Ukrinform reported, this was reported by Biometric Update.
Developed in collaboration with nanotechnology startup Somalytics, the SomaControl doorknob prototype includes a new type of capacitive sensor made from carbon nanotube paper.
The component can “detect” human presence down to 200 millimeters, and the company said it can significantly improve customers’ experience with their product through a more natural and intuitive human-machine interaction.
“The possibilities of our sensor technology are endless for both automotive and other industries and applications,” said Barbara Barkley, CEO of Somalytics.
Technically speaking, Somalytics sensors are more sensitive, smaller, less power-intensive and less costly than some traditional sensor technologies.
They can also be embedded in a wide variety of materials ranging in size from 1 to 11 millimeters.
“It’s incredibly exciting to see the potential of this incredible revolutionary technology come to life at shows like this, and we look forward to future opportunities with Hyundai,” concludes Barclay.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Tesla company has received a patent for the manufacture of a laser window cleaning system that can replace regular car wipers.
