Sweden has developed a simple test that can detect 14 different types of cancer

Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden have developed a simple test that can accurately detect 14 different types of first-stage cancer.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Euronews.

The researchers used machine learning to monitor the levels of glycosaminoglycans, a type of sugar that is an important part of our metabolism, as biomarkers for cancer in blood and urine samples of 1,260 volunteers.

In their study, the authors claim that their method can detect first-stage cancer with up to 62% sensitivity.

The test’s specificity (the proportion of true negatives it correctly predicted) was high at 95%, and the test predicted the location of tumors with up to 89% accuracy.

Researchers estimate that this simple test will cost less than $50; this is 5 to 10 times less than the average liquid biopsy blood test today.

Cancer is the cause of almost one in six deaths worldwide. The publication says the most effective way to treat it is to detect it in the early stages, and new, revolutionary blood tests offer hope in this direction.

As reported by Ukrinform, Chinese researchers have developed a non-contact method of conducting an electrocardiogram that does not require the use of electrodes or removing clothing.
