Update Now: Google Releases Urgent Update to Fix Security Vulnerability

If you are reading this article using Google Chromium, we have a recommendation for you: immediately update it with the new version, which we will talk about here. This Thursday (14th) Google released an update to their browser to fix a serious security vulnerability called “CVE-2022-1364”.

This loophole is centered in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine, which forces it to read and write memory beyond its limit, allowing data to be written or read, and is often exploited by hackers/crackers on MacBooks and PCs.

Usually, the vulnerability only crashes the browser, but in more severe cases, it can be used to remotely execute code without the user’s knowledge. This could lead to malware intrusions or data theft.

Vulnerability information should only be published after the update has reached a large number of users, so as not to “transmit” security information to the authors of cyberattacks.

As usual, the software update should automatically update to version 100.0.4896.127. If you’re not sure if the update was done and want to make sure it’s safe, or if you want to do it manually, follow these steps.

  1. Open your Google Chrome
  2. Click on the three dots in the top right corner
  3. Select the Help menu just below Settings.
  4. Click About Google Chrome.

The page below will open. There you can check the browser version. In the case of the image, this is already 100.0.4896.127. If it’s not up to date, click Update Google Chrome and then Restart.

The security vulnerability was discovered by Clement Lesigne, an expert in the Google Threat Intelligence Group. The company isn’t going to start 2022 well with its already famous browser, as it’s the third zero-day vulnerability it’s already been exploited for attacks before it was noticed in a year.

Continuation after commercial

While considered a rare condition, it has resulted in a “high severity” rating for potentially malicious commands on victims’ PCs. Also don’t forget to check browser versions based on chromiumif you are using one. These are: Edge, Opera and Brave.
