Communication disappears with the light in Ukraine: why does this happen and what to do

Unfortunately, not all base stations of mobile operators are reserved for power outages. About this 24 channels State Intelligence Service spokesman Volodymyr Kondrashov said.

What is the problem

The fact is that the base stations of mobile operators must be connected to a certain power source for their operation.

“Before the full-scale occupation, each of them had certain redundancy rules, operational endurance during a power outage. This was done with the help of batteries. The base station was designed for about 3 hours of operation,” says Kondrashov.

However, as the fixed internet access disappears in big cities, citizens use their mobile phones much more and make calls much more actively, he continues. Therefore, the charge calculated for 3 hours is consumed in half an hour.

This is a problem. Therefore, we ask that you reduce the number of conversations and content consumption as much as possible during the interruption. If you reduce the viewing of videos and photos, turn off the automatic download of files in messengers, give someone the opportunity to call loved ones, call emergency services, etc.
Kondrashov explains.

Mobile operators continue to allocate nodal base stations. It may take some time for the generator to turn on for the station to be operational.

The spokesperson said, “The process of procuring and installing generators continues. Operators buy them at their own expense and receive assistance from partners.”

The situation is really difficult. Kondrashov points out that not all base stations in Ukraine are reserved for power outages.

“Therefore, it is up to each of us how long the communication will work at such unallocated stations. It is a matter of ordinary economics,” the spokesperson for State Special Communications summarized.
