We’ve been seeing the rumored leaks for a few days now main problems on Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX, and today we have another light with which we will try to clarify all the rumors that have appeared in the last hours. It is important that you keep in mind that there are still many doubts surrounding this topic and that we will be able to clarify them only when they reach the market and we can test them.
Let’s start from the beginning. According to several sources, Navi 31, the high-end GPU based on the RDNA3 architecture that will power the Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX, has some issues that can be considered failure at the hardware level, and therefore cannot be resolved by drivers. These glitches are related to the consumption and profiles that AMD has integrated, and suggest that the company ended up putting in too strict a limiter.
The problem can be the tight power consumption limit that results in severe frequency splitting in DX12. 😩😩😩

The curve that is created between the increase in frequency and the voltage increases very significantly, and this means that eventually 355 watts is not enough for the GPU to work at 100% really intensively. This information has been confirmed by some of the most important leaks that we know today, so it has high credibility and, according to what it suggests, causes a strong irregularity in the working frequency of GPUs under DirectX 12.
Another source speaks of plural judgments and even says so these are not limited to Navi 31suggesting that they would expand to the Navi 32 and Navi 33 GPUs. These two GPUs will be used in the Radeon RX 7700 XT, Radeon RX 7700, Radeon RX 7600 XT and Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics cards, which will be positioned within the high-end, medium high range and mid range.
This source also comments on it AMD will solve all problems with “RDNA3+”. It is not clear whether this is a revision of RDNA3 or its successor, but the important thing is that we will have to wait for new silicon to resolve all these disturbances. We will see how this affects the real performance of both graphics cards and in what state they both end up in terms of stability.
N31 requires overlay.
The driver tries so hard to fix hardware errors.
Not all errors are N31 only.
Some architecture down and fixed with RDNA3+.

On the plus side, at least we got to see it Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX perform very well in 3DMark, as you can see in the charts we’ll leave you with just below this paragraph, courtesy of VideoCardz. The first would be a bit below the GeForce RTX 4080, and the second is able to beat it in Fire Strike. These results make us optimistic, but we must not forget that the performance in synthetic tests does not always faithfully reflect the real performance in games, in fact we were already able to confirm that its performance in ray tracing will be lower than that offered by the GeForce RTX 40.
