Chinese company Xiaomi has officially introduced MIUI 14, the next version of its user interface, which will soon be available to users of Xiaomi, Mi, Redmi and Poco smartphones and tablets. The updated user shell was demonstrated at a special event in China, where the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro smartphones were also presented.

According to Xiaomi, the various versions of the MIUI UI have a total of more than 564 million monthly active users. In MIUI 14, developers have implemented a number of interesting innovations aimed specifically at increasing productivity. First of all, we note that after installation, the firmware takes up 13.09 GB of the device’s memory, which, according to the developers, is significantly less compared to the solutions of competitors.

In addition, only 3.3 GB of RAM is required for the operating system itself, which is an important step towards saving resources. In addition, the number of pre-installed programs that the user cannot uninstall on their own has been reduced. Now there are only eight: “Camera”, “Settings”, “Phone”, Mi Store, “Messages”, “Browser”, “Contacts” and “Explorer”. It has more options for managing app data, the ability to keep only one copy of duplicate files, a tool to compress unused apps, and improved message management.

MIUI 14 works on the basis of a new engine that interacts with the Android kernel and opens up a number of additional possibilities for application developers. According to Xiaomi, the new shell allows the system to run much faster and smoother, and apps consume 22% less energy. It is also reported that the speed of detecting and connecting headphones to a smartphone has increased (by 50%), and the possibility of using the tablet as an additional monitor for a laptop has increased.

As for the visual changes, after installing MIUI 14, users will be able to individually change the size of application icons. Each icon can be one of four sizes, which will make the workspace look more interesting.
