After a monthly release cycle that was established several years ago, it’s here. Firefox 108new version of Mozilla web browser for PC (Linux, Mac, Windows) and the last version to be released in 2022 which is already ending.
However, Firefox 108 is one of the many lackluster versions that, with exceptions, the Mozilla browser has become accustomed to. But it’s -bland- due to the lack of outstanding innovations that make a difference, not because this version lacks internal changes, which it does.
Still, Firefox 108 is primarily maintenance updates, with its traditional security patches and various fixes, some more important than others. For example, this version fixes a bug that made it impossible to display the bookmarks bar only on a new tab page when that page was empty.
However, Firefox 108 also focuses on performance improvements, and its most notable new feature is integration with “efficiency mode” Windows 11, which is available since the launch of Windows 11 22H2 and with which Firefox allows you to save resources, yes, only with cards in the background.
Although the Nightly version is released, it is already available in the stable version.
Speaking of performance and consumption, one way to control the consumption of various browser components is to use at process manager and… yes, Firefox 108 improved it or made it accessible with a simple gesture: (Shift+Esc or Shift+Esc) a new key combination to open in a new tab.
Firefox Task Manager is a very useful tool… use it!
Firefox 108 extends WebRender support on Linux in a really simple way, but also in the context of improving browser performance.
Other minor news in Firefox 108 include improved JavaScript support, support for playing MIDI files online, and improved support for PDF documents, with which you can now save and print forms with non-Western characters.
