An independently developed robotic surgeon in China has successfully performed a knee replacement surgery on a patient.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Xinhua.

This was the first commercial use of a Chinese medical robot in human surgery.

Under the supervision of orthopedic surgeons at Sichuan University West China Hospital in Sichuan Province, a robot surgeon performed a joint prosthesis on a 73-year-old patient.

Zhou Zongke, a professor of orthopedics at the aforementioned hospital, said that the patient suffering from knee pain was over ten years old. A diagnosis of terminal osteoarthritis of the knee joint was made.

According to the professor, the doctors entered the patient’s CT scan data into the computer for simulation and rehearsed the surgical procedures on the computer before performing surgery with the robot.

The advantage of robotic surgery is that it is intelligent and extremely sensitive about the number, angle and thickness of the incisions.

It is stated that knee pain is common in the elderly, especially in patients with osteoarthritis. The robot can assist surgeons in human surgeries according to the different characteristics of each patient.

As Ukrinform reports, researchers from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden have developed a simple test that can accurately detect 14 different types of first-stage cancer.
