Microsoft launches new OneDrive for Windows 11

Microsoft continues to refresh the internal tools and apps for its latest operating system, and next comes the new OneDrive for Windows 11, a customer who runs the company’s cloud storage service and this is installed by default in the latest Windows.

First spotted in July 2022 when an early version was leaked to the public, it is now being rolled out without prior notice to some user groups. Although the user interface and navigation are similar to the current version, inherited from Windows 10, it offers visual changes and improvements. You have four vertical tabs to manage your sync and backup settings, your account, and your notifications. The fourth tab allows you to check the current version of the app and sign up for OneDrive Insider updates.

One notable change is the storage indicator in the lower left corner, which allows you to check your storage limit without having to go to a specific tab. Another news is coming through system dark and light mode supportsomething that the older version did not offer until now.

Aside from a redesigned user interface and navigation, the new OneDrive for Windows 11 doesn’t offer any new features, at least not yet. Their goal is the same: manage your backupscustomize download speed, enable or disable files on demand and file collaboration features from within Office applications.

Configuring this application is not something that is done often, as management is usually done once during installation, but it is worth noting that Microsoft gives this part of the operating system much more attractive and modern user interface. OneDrive is widely used by Windows users, either in its free version, where Microsoft gives away several GB of storage space simply with a company ID account, or in the subscription version, especially the one included in Microsoft 365, 1 Tbyte expandable by default.

It is not known whether Microsoft will release an improved OneDrive for Windows 11 on Windows 10, as it has done with other applications such as Alarms & Clock or recently with the new Media Player. It would be interesting as long as Microsoft continues to support Windows 10, let’s remember until October 2025. Microsoft has not yet officially released the application and included it in the stable version of Windows 11.
