Rumors have begun to gather since Microsoft announced the acquisition of Activision Blizzard Maybe studios that Sony could get to stay competitive from PlayStation Studios. Although fans are among the most recurring names of the company, such as SEGA or Square Enix, Japanese analysts seem to point to another of the company’s great allies.
And it seems that after the great success of the Elden Ring, FromSoftware would become a subject of greater interest to Japanese developers. Specifically, the last to point out this study was Serkan Toto, an analyst at Kantan Games, who assures that «FromSoftware is currently a candidate for acquisition by Sony«.
At this point, however, the analyst has not offered any support beyond this word for this information. While it is true that this would undoubtedly be a fairly viable acquisition, the two companies shared a long and fairly close collaboration throughout the Souls saga, with big concessions, such as Demon’s Souls exclusivity for PS3 and its subsequent remake for PS5, or Bloodborne exclusivity for PS4. Sony could now test the purchase to ensure the exclusivity of another episode of FromSoftware, which has already confirmed the collaboration of Brandon Sanderson, a renowned writer of fiction and sci-fi.
In fact, we learned last year about Sony’s investment in Kadokawa Corporation, the current owner of 80% of FromSoftware.
On the other hand, it would not be surprising if Sony tried to combine this acquisition with its new PlayStation Plus plan, which for the time being has focused on merging its services under the new subscription options, we could also be surprised by the announced PC extension, with a system similar to the Xbox Game Pass. Although the latter case will take a little longer to come, with the first changes already closed and announced for next June.
